Salaries in the iron and steel segment fell 3.3% in June

In June 2021, average salaries in Ukraine’s iron and steel segment dropped by 3.3% to ₴19.4 thousand against the previous month, according to the data presented by the Trade Union of Metallurgists and Miners of Ukraine (TUMMU).

In general, average salaries in the mining & metals sector of Ukraine increased for most positions in June. Specifically:

  • coke industry — ₴20.45 thousand (+1.4% against May);
  • pipe industry — ₴16.18 thousand (+7.3%);
  • mining industry — ₴19.41 thousand (+1.2%);
  • non-ferrous metals industry — ₴13.8 thousand (+11.1%);
  • entire steel industry — ₴17.85 thousand (-1.3%).

In June 2021, salaries in the mining and coke industries grew by 11.5% and 8.8% respectively against June last year. Salaries in the iron and steel and non-ferrous metals segments rose by 12.8% and 35.3% respectively and in the pipe industry by 22.7%.

According to the information provided by the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, in May, the average salary in industry was ₴14.7 thousand (+2.9%) against Ukraine’s average of ₴14.3 thousand (+6%). In the construction sector, personal incomes fell by 3.5% to ₴11.3 thousand, in mechanical engineering by 13.6% to ₴14.1 thousand, in energy by 4.1% to ₴18.8 thousand.

As reported earlier, in 2020, average salaries in Ukraine’s mining & metals sector increased in almost all segments against 2019.  The average salary in the steel industry increased by 3.1% over the year, while salaries at pipe and non-ferrous metals companies slightly decreased.
