In January 2023, the Ukrainian Coke Chemical Plants (UCCP) reduced the production of gross coke with a moisture content of 6% by 3.3 times compared to January 2022 – to 245,000 tons. Interfax-Ukraine reports about it with the reference to Anatoliy Starovoit, CEO of coke chemical enterprises Ukrkoks association.

The production of metallurgical coke in January amounted to 212 thousand tons. Compared to December 2022, in January 2023 coke chemists increased the production of gross coke by 23.7%, and metallurgical coke – by 24%.

Zaporizhkoks in January 2023 increased production of blast furnace coke by 6.1% compared to the same month in 2022 – up to 72.9 thousand tons. The volume of production in January 2023 is the maximum since August 2021, when 72.9 thousand tons of coke were produced.

In addition, the resumption of the coke and chemical department’s work at the Kametstal Iron and Steel Works, which was stopped in November 2022 due to the limitation of electricity supply due to Russian shelling, had a positive effect on the result of January 2023.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2022 Ukrainian coke plants reduced the production of 6% moisture coke by 59% compared to 2021 – to 3.91 million tons. The output of metallurgical coke was 3.354 million tons.

During the year, 4.594 million tons of coal concentrate were delivered to domestic coal-fired power plants, 3.16 million tons o them were Ukrainian production, and 1.43 million tons were imported.
